A rakish and handsome classic Italian sports tourer, presented in a tasteful colour scheme.
It is powered by a 4.2-litre ‘Tipo AM 107.21.42’ V8 engine which develops in the region of 261hp and sends it to the rear wheels via a five-speed ZF manual gearbox.
Of just 200 Kyalamis produced between 1976 and 1983, it is believed that a mere 26 cars were produced with the rare five-speed ZF manual gearbox.
The seller understands that this is one of the first five Kyalamis produced, however this cannot be verified.
The car has been owned by four custodians from new and the odometer displays 32,095 km, however this is thought to have rolled over once, which would make the true mileage 132,095 kilometres.
The first model designed under the Alejandro de Tomaso ownership of Maserati, the Kyalami was mechanically based on the De Tomaso Longchamp. Restyled by Pietro Frua, the Kyalami was given an attractive and distinctive Maserati appearance.
The Kyalami was powered by a quad overhead cam 90-degree Maserati V8 engine, replacing the American-sourced Cleveland Ford V8 used in the Longchamp.
This example is finished in a handsome shade of dark blue metallic over an attractive cream leather-trimmed interior, complemented by cream carpets and an extended black leather-trimmed dashboard.
It rides on a set of 15-inch alloy wheels shod in Michelin XWX tyres.
Factory-fitted cabin equipment includes air conditioning, electric windows, a heated rear windscreen, and a full complement of elegant Blue Jaeger instrument gauges.
The car comes with a history file of paperwork, with documents including service history for the car and also a documentation of its earlier partial restoration.
There is no known bodywork damage.
The dark blue metallic paintwork is in generally very good condition, having been repainted during the car’s lifetime. It shows some light minor wear such as very minor stone chipping and the odd small mark expected from a car of its age. The seller notes that the car features some very minor signs of wear, but generally a beautiful ‘patina’.
Inside, the cabin presents very well. Having never been restored, the seats feature some creasing on the cream leather, but with no major wear or discolouration. There are also a few scuffs on the steering wheel leather, but generally the interior presents the handsome patination of a car which has been used and lovingly maintained throughout its lifetime.
There are no known electrical or mechanical faults with the car, and there are no warning lights showing on the dashboard.
The most recent inspection of roadworthiness was a Swiss veteran vehicle test which was conducted in 2021, during which the vendor reports that no warnings or advisory items were noted.
This Kyalami’s latest service was carried out out during June 2022 at around 130,000 km by Auto Bianco. The work comprised of an engine oil and filter change, and the replacement of all other lubricants.
Prior to this, the car was serviced by Maserati specialists in Switzerland.
This Maserati Kyalami is a well-presented example of the lesser-seen sports tourer, which remains in wonderfully original condition. One of just 200 cars ever made, and believed to be one of just 26 models equipped with the slick five-speed ZF manual transmission, this is a rare classic that would make a great addition to any collection of Italian cars, and is ready be enjoyed.
